School Bond Election Coverage: The Largest Single Day of Decisions We’ve Ever Seen!

Nov 8 Results by Dollars

It has now been almost two weeks since the November 8 mid-term elections, and we at TheAmosGroup.US are ready to call our results “pretty close to final.” There won’t be much that changes from here on out.

The short story? About 65% of all bond elections passed . . . and yet this represents 80% of the dollars that were up for a funding vote. How is that possible?

There is sometimes a “spread” between the two passage rates. We are analyzing our data now to see why that may have been the case this time around, but in general you can consider a scenario like this: imagine there were only ten elections . . . and that one of those elections was for $11. And . . . 9 of those elections were for $1 each. If only one election passes (for $11) and 9 fail (for $9) . . . then 10% of the elections have passed (1/10). . . but 55% of the dollars available were approved ($11/$20).

In total, 329/503 elections passed (65%) . . . representing $47.42 billion / $59 billion up for vote (80%+).

As always, in the big picture most bond elections pass. In the small picture, some don’t, but the dollars still find their way through and become opportunities for solution providers. Eventually, even failed initiatives are retooled and placed before voters again. The capital improvement needs of K-12 schools never go away.
